Adorini Leather Cigar Case review

There are many portable accessories we cigar smokers can use to transport and protect our cigars when we are away from home. Adorini’s Leather Cigar Case is a beautiful addition to anyone’s collection for use in more formal and elegant social situations.

The case I was given for review was made from real leather, very soft and smooth to the touch. The stitching along the edges was neat and very attractive.

Inside, the case is lined with Spanish cedar and had two adjustable dividers. I was able to easily fit up to 5 cigars of varying sizes with no problems. The case is adjustable for just about any length cigar.

The case easily fit in the outer pocket of my suit jackets and it also fit in most of my inner breast pockets albeit a bit snug in some of them.

One of the best features of this case is the ability to see the cigar band once the case is opened. You don’t have to pull each cigar out to see which one it is, the band is easily in view.

If you are looking to give a cigar accessory gift to a friend or perhaps yourself, you can find this case and other accessories at Adorini’s website: www.adorini.com

Screwpop Cigar Punch; Cigar accessory review

boxI recently received the new and improved Screwpop Cigar Punch 2.0 from Screwpop for review purposes. Upon arrival, I swapped out my trusty double guillotine cutter for the Screwpop to give it a fair trial. I’ve used the Screwpop Cigar Punch exclusively for a couple of weeks and put it through its paces.

I’ve used cigar punches before. Usually, the punch was built into the side or bottom of a cigar lighter. While this is a good option to have if you have no other way to cut a cigar, I have found them to be cumbersome. While convenient, these punches are not always very sharp either.

The Screwpop Cigar Punch 2.0 on the other hand, is lightweight, easy to use and razor sharp. It is comprised of two parts that screw together. The cigar punch itself has an aluminum body and a stainless steel insert that cuts through the cigar cap. As I said before, it is razor sharp and it cut through the thickest cap with ease. Using only gentle pressure and a twisting motion, the Screwpop went through every cigar like a hot knife through butter.

I used the punch on various ring gauges and found a single punch was sufficient to produce a good draw on each cigar. The diameter of the cut was large enough that a buildup of tar never occurred and I never tasted bitterness on the cap.

The best part of this improved tool, in my opinion, it the ejector rod. Just slide the punch body over the ejector rod and twist it closed. Once the cutter is attached to the clip half, that circle of cut cigar cap falls out and drops into the ashtray. No fumbling or banging the side of the cutter to get rid of that piece of tobacco.

You can clip the Screwpop Cigar Punch to keychains, belt loops, zipper pulls, laniers, etc. Since it’s made from aluminum and stainless steel, you can even leave it outside without worrying about it rusting. The clip on the Screwpop doubles as a bottle opener and also works quite well.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I’m not really a cigar punch guy. The quality and performance of the Screwpop Cigar Punch 2.0 has really impressed me though. I will honestly give this product a good recommendation to anyone who is looking for a new cigar punch for their use.

I currently have an aluminum mini bottle / can opener attached to my keychain. Since the Screwpop serves a dual purpose, I will now use it as a backup cigar cutter or bottle opener when needed in a pinch.

The Screwpop Cigar Punch 2.0 retails for $14.95 and can be purchased directly on the Screwpop website. With the holiday season upon us, this may make a great gift for your cigar smoking friends or family.

Visol Cigar Accessory review

Lighter and CutterLast month, I received two products that every cigar smoker needs: a lighter and a cutter.

These accessories are from a company called Visol that makes smoking and bar accessories for men and women.

I have since used the cutter and lighter exclusively for about a month and can now render a well informed opinion on them.

First up is the Visol Dobrev III Triple Jet Flame Cigar Lighter.

The lighter sent to me had a chrome finish although Visol also offers a lighter in matte black. It consists of a solid, all metal body that weighs in around a third of a pound. Certainly this is a bit heavier than other lighters I have used but it seems to be able to put up with some abuse and still perform well.

To use the lighter, simply flip up the top covering the triple burners and ignite by pulling down on the front button. The triple flames are adjustable by a well thought out lever that flips up from the bottom of the lighter. This allows you to adjust the flame without any other tools to fumble about with.

The lighter also has a built-in 7mm punch. The punch is mounted flush in the back of the lighter and swings out when needed. I don’t use a punch on many cigars but, this punch functioned well and would be handy if you didn’t have any other cutting tool available.

The lighter is refillable and I did have to refill it once during my test period.

The dimensions for the Visol Dobrev III are approximately 1 ½” wide by 3” high by ¾” deep. It fit well in my hand and performed flawlessly each time.

The MSRP for this lighter is $50.

The second accessory is the Visol Axe Glossy Black & Stainless Steel finish Cigar Cutter.

This cutter can handle up to a 56 ring gauge cigar. It is spring action and is also a bit heavier than my normal cutter. I weighed this lighter and it came in at just about 3 ½ ounces. My normal cutter is just under 2 ounces.

The Visol Axe is made up of two brushed chrome handles and a composite glossy body.

The blades were super sharp and made clean cuts on all of the cigars I smoked in various ring sizes.

The MSRP for the cutter is $55.

All in all, I was very impressed and satisfied with the performance of both these products. They are very attractive and well constructed. I feel they would make a great gift for yourself or a friend who is looking for a matching set of cigar tools.
