Casa Cuevas Reserva Natural

Cigar Review: Casa Cuevas Reserva Natural

Cigar Review

Casa Cuevas Cigars released the Reserva line in 2019 during the 2019 IPCPR/PCA show in Las Vegas. The cigars come in a Natural wrapper and a Maduro wrapper. Today, I’ll be reviewing the Casa Cuevas Reserva Natural.

The specifics

The cigar is available in (3) vitolas; Toro 6×50, Torpedo 6 1/4×52 and Robusto 5×52. The samples I received for this review were Robustos.

The blend is comprised of an Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper, a Havana binder and Dominican Republic, Nicaraguan and USA filler leaves.

The experience

Appearance

The navy blue and silver band is bright and striking. The wrapper is Claro / CT in color, has some visible veins and gives off a cedar aroma. The double cap is smoothly applied. The foot is finished and has an earthy, sweet aroma.

The cigar feels a little lighter than other Robustos but is firm to the touch. I did not detect any soft spots at all.

Pre-light

I cut the cap with my trusty Xikar and took a pre-light pull on the cigar. It had just the right amount of resistance and I picked up on an earthy, savory flavor.

1st third

The first third of the cigar had a medium strength retrohale with a slight “pinch” at the finish. Flavors were cedar and black pepper.

2nd third

The second third of the cigar had a similar retrohale. The flavors changed to a smooth, creamy smoke with a spicy sensation on the edges and tip of my tongue.

Final third

Finishing up the cigar, I noticed an increase in strength during the retrohale. I picked up hints of anise and deep, rich tobacco flavors. The smoke was thick, creamy and smooth.

Combustion

The overall combustion of the cigar was excellent. The burn was even and had a medium gray, tight ash. The smoke volume was good and very satisfying. It never burned hot or became unpleasant.

[su_box title=”Summary” style=”glass” box_color=”#e1dddd”]The Casa Cuevas Reserva Natural was a pleasure to smoke. I consider it a mild to medium strength and medium bodied cigar. It had excellent complexity and flavors that kept my interest.

My overall score for the Casa Cuevas Reserva Natural is a 93.[/su_box]
