History
There are a lot of stories surrounding the invention of the Sidecar Cocktail. Most of those stories put the creation in France just after World War I. The earliest recipes date from 1919 and 1922. Several people have been credited with the invention and I guess we will never know the truth.
The Sidecar Cocktail Recipe
* 2 ounces Brandy (cognac)
* 1 ounce Cointreau (you can substitute Triple Sec here)
* 1/2 ounce lemon juice
You can rim the glass with sugar as most original recipes called for or just add a dash of simple sugar for a more modern take on the drink.
Shake with ice. Strain into cocktail glass.
Final Thoughts
This was my first try at mixing a brandy cocktail. I found this drink to be very smooth with a nice balance between the Brandy and lemon juice. I would definitely make this again and would introduce a friend to it as well.
