Towards the end of April, I was reviewing my cocktail book collection. I’ve been looking for something special to do for the summer. As I looked, I came across a Tiki book I had purchased and never got around to exploring. Once I saw it, I knew I had my answer and it was perfect for this time of year!
The book is Beachbum Berry Remixed, which is a consolidation of two earlier Tiki cocktail books along with many new recipes. It has a couple hundred Tiki cocktail recipes. I began flipping through the book, looking for interesting cocktails that I wanted to try and jotting down the ingredients I would need to accumulate.
Shortly after I decided on my summer cocktail theme, a friend of mine posted an Instagram photo of a Tiki cocktail from a “pop up” Tiki bar at Shuffle, the Seminole Heights shuffle board club. What a coincidence! Shuffle was hosting this pop-up for a few days, so my wife and I checked the place out the following Saturday.
We arrived just as the folks were completing their setup and we ordered a couple of Zombies. Since it was still early and not very busy, I had a chance to chat with the three people making the drinks. I learned that they are about to open a Tiki bar called The Pink Pineapple, in Seminole Heights. You can follow these folks on Instagram at @thetikiwitch, @slipperysean and @mckinney_loggins. In addition to The Pink Pineapple’s facebook page, they also have an IG account @thepinkpineappletampa. I’m looking forward to their Grand Opening since the Tampa Bay area really doesn’t have an authentic Tiki Bar.
To celebrate my Tiki themed summer, I’ve decided to write a weekly blog post called “Tiki Tuesday.” I’ll be documenting my favorite Tiki Cocktails that I have mixed and enjoyed along with some interesting Tiki related posts.
To kick it off this week, I’ll be posting the first cocktail recipe today.
I hope you enjoy this series, put together these cocktails and have a drink along with me!
