An annual release, this past year’s Decadas was limited to 2,500 boxes and had a release to brick and mortar stores in November 2020. I received my samples from General Cigar a bit earlier than that and after several weeks rest, I smoked them earlier this year.
The cigar is available in a single vitola: a 6.75” x 43 stick named Dahlia. It’s DR Piloto Cubano and Mexican San Andres filler leaves are surrounded by a Mexican San Andres binder which in turn, is covered by a beautiful Cameroon wrapper. The MSRP for the cigar is $17.99.
The Experience
The Maduro colored Cameroon wrapper leaf had many fine veins, visible seams and a rich, sweet tobacco aroma. It was a little rustic and had some tooth to it. Overall, it was a good looking cigar. The double cap was a little rough and the finished foot had the scent of sweet, strong tobacco.
I gave the cap a straight cut and tried a pre-light draw. The draw was perfect and filled my palate with earthy tobacco flavors.
Right from the get-go the retrohale on the Decadas was strong and long lasting. It remained this way throughout the entire session. It never became unpleasant and was a good counterpoint to the flavors I received on my palate.
The first third’s flavors were in contrast were much milder than the retrohale. The main flavor was mild tobacco that would coat my tongue and there were hints of bitterness. The finish was short and mild as well.
The second third had a surprisingly clean, refreshing mouth feel sensation that morphed into savory tobacco with a medium long finish. I definitely was not expecting something like that!
Finishing up the cigar, the final third had one final change. In addition to a stronger tobacco base, I picked up some notes of coffee that ended with a long, satisfying finish.
Combustion-wise, this cigar performed like a champ. The burn was sharp and even with a thin carbon ring behind the light gray, tight, firm ash.
.[su_box title=”Summary” style=”soft” box_color=”#e1dddd”]Overall, this is a medium to full strength and medium bodied cigar. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment I had with these cigars. I can heartily recommend these cigars, knowing you would not be disappointed.
For this review, I give the Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas 2020 a rating of 97. [/su_box]
