The Flor de Selva 20th Anniversario is a Honduran Puro celebrating Maya Selva’s 20 years in the cigar business.
For this review I sampled the robusto 4.5×50 vitola, which was provided to me from the manufacturer.
The Experience
Apperance
The cigar bands are similar to the Flor de Selva line except they’ve added a red and white 20th Aniversario addition to the main and foot bands.
The Honduran wrapper is Colorado in color, with a few fine veins and nearly invisible seams. The wrapper had a faint tobacco aroma to it. The double cap was smoothly applied. The cigar has a finished foot with a “barnyard” aroma.
Pre-light
The cigar had an average weight and a firm feel. I sliced off the cap and gave a test draw. The draw was slightly firm and presented a slightly grassy tobacco flavor.
I lit the cigar with my favorite quad lighter and began my smoking session.
1st third
The first third of the cigar had a medium strength retrohale. On my palate, I tasted woody tobacco, savory tobacco on my lips and a good finish.
2nd third
The second third saw a slight increase in strength during the retrohale. The smoke was savory on my palate with a bit of burned coffee on the back of my palate.
Final third
The final third brought a slight tingle on the edges of my tongue, a slight astringency and strong coffee notes. The retrohale was also at its strongest at this point.
Combustion
The cigar burned evenly, had a thin carbon ring and a gray ash with lots of black striations. The ash was very firm and dense. The cigar produced an average to very good amount of smoke.
