National Tequila Day July 24

Cocktails

No one knows when National Tequila Day started. We should just be thankful that it exists. This year, the Mexican Chamber of the Tequila Industry is going to use National Tequila Day to kick off Tequila week in the USA!. It’s basically a week to celebrate Tequila’s place in history and everyone’s love of this Mexican spirit. Or, perhaps to renew our vows to never, ever do another shot. ever.

Now, for this post, I could have cut up a lime, dumped out some salt, poured a shot of Cuervo and called it a day. But, that’s the easy way out. I wanted to find a cocktail that would celebrate tequila and be worthy of National Tequila Day. I think I found it.

The Rosita

This cocktail was originally found in the 1988 edition of the “Mr. Boston Official Bartenders Guide” by Gary Regan, a well known character in the cocktail world. He changed it a bit and published his recipe in his book, “The Bartenders Bible”.

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 oz. Reposado tequila
  • 1/2 oz. dry vermouth
  • 1/2 oz. sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 oz. Italian red bitter liqueur (I used Campari)
to mix:
  • add all ingredients into a mixing tin and stir with ice.
  • pour into an old fashioned glass with ice
  • garnish with a lemon twist

The Rosita is very similar to the Negroni but, it’s a bit smoother. I enjoyed this drink very much.

How are you going to celebrate National Tequila Day? Did you try the Rosita? Why do a lot of women say tequila makes their clothes fall off? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below!
