Cigar review: Plasencia Alma Fuerte

Cigar Review

Released in 2017, the Plasencia Alma Fuerte was the first cigar Plasencia blended and released for themselves.

This Nicaraguan puro, manufactured by Plasencia in its Nicaraguan based factory comes in four vitolas; Generacion V – Salamon (7 x 58), Nestor IV – Toro (6 ¼ x 54, Robustus I – Robusto (5 ¼ x 52) and Sixto II – Hexagono (6 x 60).

The Alma Fuerte is a good looking box press cigar. The dark brown wrapper has fine veins and visible seams. The triple cap is smoothly applied.

There are three black and gold bands on the cigar; a small top band with logo, a main band with logo and cigar brand and a foot band with the words Alma Fuerte.

Let’s go through the pre-smoke checklist:

  • Firm feel – check
  • Aroma on wrapper – faint tobacco
  • Aroma on foot – classic Nicaraguan “barnyard”
  • Pre-light draw – easy

We have ignition:

The cigar creates a firm, tight, grey ash as it burns. The carbon ring is thin, dark and even. Every puff produces a good amount of smoke.

The first third of the cigar starts off with some cedar notes and a rich, peppery tobacco. The retrohale is strong and spicy, to the point where it stings a little bit. The finish was mild.

Moving into the second third, the retrohale is still strong but, it is most pronounced at the very end. I picked up on some more cedar, coffee and earthy tobacco on my palate. The finish had gained a bit of strength as well.

3rd – The final third was consistent with the second but with a more pronounced finish and deeper flavors.

I found the Plasencia Alma Fuerte to be an enjoyable full bodied, medium to full strength smoke. Overall, I give this cigar an 89.
