Cigar Review: Macanudo Heritage Nuevo

Cigar Review

Released in September of 2019, the Macanudo Heritage Nuevo is a limited edition to the Macanudo Café line. General cigar will be releasing 6,000 (10) count boxes. It’s the first time a Café cigar has been rolled with a wrapper from Ecuador instead of Connecticut.

The specifics

The Macanudo Heritage Nuevo comes in three sizes: Robusto, 5 inches by 50 ring gauge ($12.99); Toro, 6 by 52 (13.99); and Churchill, 7 by 50 ($14.99). For this review, I received samples of the Robusto from General Cigar Co.

The rest of the blend is made with a Mexican binder and Dominican and Mexican fillers—though Nuevo has a bit of Nicaraguan leaf in the filler as well.

The experience

Appearance

Since the wrapper is a Connecticut seed wrapper, it still comes in at Claro / Connecticut on the color scale. There are minor veins and barely visible seams on the wrapper also.

The finished foot gives off a barnyard aroma while there is no detectable scent from the wrapper leaf.

Combustion

Overall, the burn characteristics of the Heritage Nuevo were quite good. It had an easy draw, produced some good smoke volume, kept an even burn and had a thin dark carbon ring with a dark mottled ash.

1st third

The cigar is basically a one note cigar with some minor changes on the finish. For the first third, I could taste mild tobacco on my palate and a bitter / sour finish.

2nd & final thirds

The second and final thirds were nearly identical. I found the cigar to have a mild tobacco flavor on the finish and palate. I feel the final third is the best part of cigar.

[su_box title=”Summary” style=”glass” box_color=”#e1dddd”]The Macanudo Heritage Nuevo is a fine cigar if you are looking for something mild to medium at best. I feel this would fit right into a Macanudo fans wheel house.

Overall, I score this cigar at an 89.[/su_box]
