Clasico Prensado Habano

Casa Cuevas Clasico Prensado Habano cigar review

Cigar Review

Casa Cuevas, a company owned by father and son Luis Cuevas Sr. and Luis Cuevas Jr. first hit the US in 2017. Casa Cuevas is manufactured at the family owned factory, Tabacelera Las Lavas in the Dominican Republic. Before the Casa Cuevas release, the factory rolled cigars for other brand name companies.

The Clasico Prensado line has three blends using a Conneticut, Maduro and Habano wrapper. They are available in Robusto – 5X52, Toro – 6X50 and Gordo – 6X60.

Today, I am reviewing the Habano blend I received in one of my 2019 Stogiebird subscription deliveries.

Specifics

This toro’s frontmark name is Envy and has an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and a filler blend using Pennslyvania, Colombian, Nicaraguan and Dominican leaves.

The Experience

Appearance

The habano wrapper is a Colorado shade of brown. It is a toothy wrapper with minimal visible veins and seams. There is also a slight oily sheen to the wrapper. The double cap is smoothly applied. The finished foot has a sweet, earthy aroma while the wrapper has a rich tobacco scent. The cigar is average in weight and has a bit of a “give”, more than most other cigars.

Pre-light

I used a straight cut on the cap and gave the cigar a cold draw test. The draw had a good amount of resistance and I found a savory / salty flavor on my lips from the wrapper.

1st Third

After a toast and light of the foot, I picked up on a medium strength sensation on the retrohale and mild tobacco notes that ended with a slight tingle on my palate.

2nd Third

Moving along, the tobacco flavor remains consistent with an increase on the tingling sensations and a long, satisfying finish. The retrohale sensation has a slight increase.

Final Third

Finishing up, the retrohale becomes more pronounced while flavors and sensations remain constant on my palate. The finish remains long and very tasty.

Combustion

The cigar burned evenly throughout with a thin carbon ring behind the ash. The ash itself was gray in color, very tight and firm. It lasted for a good 1 ½ inches before I rolled it off. The smoke volume was very good and very satisfying.

[su_box title=”Summary” style=”soft” box_color=”#e1dddd”]Overall, I felt this cigar was mild to medium in strength and medium bodied. I enjoyed the session I had with the cigar and would certainly smoke this cigar again. In the end, I rate the Clasico Prensado Habano at a solid 90.[/su_box]
