Leaf by Oscar

Leaf by Oscar cigar review

Cigar Review

Leaf by Oscar is an unusual looking cigar. Wrapped in a protective leaf, you really have no clue what the cigar looks like until you unwrap it.

The line is available in four different wrappers: Connecticut, Sumatra, Corojo and Maduro. They are manufactured in two vitolas; Toro (6 x 50) and Double Toro/Gordo (6 x 60).

The cigar I used for this review came from one of my monthly Stogiebird subscription deliveries.

Specifics

I had the Corojo blend which is comprised of a Honduran Corojo wrapper and a Honduran binder and filler.

The Experience

Appearance

The wrapper was a shade of Colorado Maduro and had a nice oily sheen. There were some prominent veins and visible seams. The wrapper had a slight hay / sweet tobacco aroma.

The triple cap was smoothly applied and the finished foot has a slightly grassy scent.

Pre-light

The cigar had an average weight and was firm to the touch. I used a straight cut and took a pre-light draw. The flavor was savory tobacco.

1st Third

The cigar had a good spicy retrohale right off the bat. The predominant flavor on my palate was savory tobacco with a slight bitterness on the finish.

2nd Third

Moving into the next phase, the retrohale picked up some strength in the spice sensation. The palate flavors remained the same.

Final Third

Coming to the end of the line, The retrohale was spicy and long lasting. My palate had flavors of strong tobacco and a long satisfying finish.

Combustion

The burn was even with a thin carbon ring behind the white ash. The ash also had some black striations, was firm and very tight. The cigar produced a good amount of smoke volume.

[su_box title=”Summary” style=”soft” box_color=”#e1dddd”]I felt this Corojo Leaf by Oscar was an enjoyable smoke. I would classify it as medium strength and medium in body.

Overall, I rated this cigar a 90.[/su_box]
