Hiram and Solomon Traveling Man cigar review

Cigar Review

Travelling Man is part of the Hiram and Solomon line of cigars which were created by two Masonic Brothers; Fouad Kashouty and George Dakrat. They both enjoyed smoking cigars after meetings and noticed that there were no cigars made for Freemason smokers that carried the square and compass symbols.

The Travelling Man line comes in 5 vitolas: Robusto (5×52), Toro (6×54), Lancero (7×38), Torpedo (6×52) and Gran Toro (6×60)

While these cigars were made with Freemasons in mind, they are available to everyone.

Specifics

The blend is comprised of a Sumatra Indonesia wrapper, an Indonesia binder and a mix of Arapiraca, Habano Jalapa, Habano Ometepe and Dominican leaf.

I picked up a lancero for this review from a local brick and mortar.

The Experience

Appearance

The Sumatran wrapper falls into the Colorado shade scale, has small, thin veins and noticeable seams. There is a faint aroma of tobacco coming from the wrapper leaf.

The triple cap is smoothly applied and the finished foot has a faint earth and rich tobacco scent.

The cigar was a little on the soft-ish side.

The cigar’s band is a unique purple color that depicts several Masonic symbols and codes. Below all that is the name of the brand in white lettering on top of a black background.

Pre-light

I clipped the cap with my guillotine cutter and checked out the draw. While the draw was very good, I was a little disappointed at the lack of flavor.

I gently toasted and lit the small foot since I only had a quad lighter at my disposal.

1st Third

The retrohale was medium strong. The main flavor was mild tobacco at first but then, a deeper tobacco flavor settled into the sides and tip of my tongue at the finish. The finish was a bit short.

2nd Third

This portion of the cigar had a deeper tobacco flavor that coats the palate and a long finish. The retrohale was slightly stronger but also a bit smoother, not a sharp “pinching” sensation.

Final Third

I felt the retrohale was strong at this point while I found saveory flavors on my lips and a tingling sensation on my tongue along with the same flavors from the second third.

Combustion

The burn was even to razor sharp at times. The ash was light gray and firm. The cigar produced a good amount of smoke.

[su_box title=”Summary” style=”soft” box_color=”#e1dddd”]It has been awhile since I smoked a lancero. I’d forgotten how good this vitola could be. I consider this to be a medium bodied, medium strength cigar that was a good smoke.

Overall, I rate the Hiram and Solomon Travelling Man at an 85.[/su_box]
