Fellow Craft

Fellow Craft cigar review

Cigar Review

Fellow Craft is the final Hiram & Solomon cigar from my recent local purchase. Have I saved the best for last? Read on and find out!

Specifics

The Fellow craft line of cigars is available in four vitolas: Robusto (5×52); Toro (6×52); Gavel (5×60) and Gran Toro (6×60). I smoked a Toro for this review.

The blend is comprised of a Habano Oscuro wrapper, an Indonesian Sumatra binder and a combination of Habano Jalapa, Habano Ometepe and Ligero Habano Esteli filler leaves.

The Experience

Appearance

The Oscuro wrapper falls into the Colorado shade and has a nice oily sheen. There are a few medium sized veins and visible seams from the rolling process. The wrapper has a faint aroma of leather and tobacco.

The double cap is smoothly applied and the finished foot has an earthy scent.

The cigar sports the typical Hiram & Solomon series of bands; The foot band with the name of the line, and the main band with the Mason icons that adorn it.

Pre-light

I gave the cap a straight cut and a test pull. The cold draw was very good and I picked up on earthy notes.

1st Third

I used a quad lighter to toast and light the foot. The retrohale had a mild sensation at first but it began to build and finished off with a medium “pinch”. The smoke had some bitter notes and felt astringent. There was a medium finish.

2nd Third

Moving into the second third, the flavors changed to very strong and deep tobacco and a long finish. The retrohale moved from medium to strong and lingered in my nostrils.

Final Third

We are towards the end now and the flavors change slightly, at bit stronger but are consistent with the 2nd third for the most part. The retrohale is very strong and long lasting.

Combustion

The cigar burned fairly even for the most part. The carbon ring behind the ash has dark and thin. The ash was dark gray, firm and tight. I let it grow to a good inch and a half before rolling it off.

[su_box title=”Summary” style=”soft” box_color=”#e1dddd”]The Fellow Craft was an enjoyable smoke. I consider it to be a medium strength, medium to full bodied cigar. I would certainly pick more of these and others in the Hiram and Solomon line.

Overall, I rate this cigar at a 90. [/su_box]
